Itinerary
Today we will have a fantastic day in the First City of America, Santo Domingo. We include a panoramic visit of the city. We will visit its colonial area, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, walk through its streets, including the first street of America, ¨Las Damas¨ and reach the Primate Cathedral of America (entrance included), dedicated to Santa Maria de la Encarnacion, which was built on the orders of Pope Julius II in 1504. Next to the Cathedral, we will visit the “Parque Colón”, a place for the locals with bars and restaurants to enjoy a good time at leisure. After that, we will also visit the Ozama Fortress (entrance included), and we will arrive at the “Alcazar de Colón” (entrance included), the first of the new world. Free afternoon for shopping in one of Santo Domingo´s modern shopping malls or its traditional market hall called Mercado Modelo.
After breakfast, we leave Santo Domingo to the East of the Dominican Republic, bordering the Caribbean Sea, to the lands of the Sugar Cane. In SAN PEDRO DE MACORIS, the birthplace of the country´s many baseball players, we stop at the Cuevas de las Maravillas (entrance included), within the protected area of the Dominican Republic declared a national park since 1977 with an area of 4.5 square kilometres near the Soco and Cumayasa Rivers. The cave is 800 metres long and it is located 25 metres underground. This cave is known for being the first museum of cave art in the Antilles with more than 500 valuable pictographs made by the Tainos, the island´s ancient inhabitants.
After the visit, we continue to La Romana, where we will stay in an All-Inclusive hotel to enjoy the beautiful beach of BAYAHIBE. Rest of the day at leisure.
Breakfast. We leave on an excursion, just 5 minutes from our hotel; we will take a boat to SAONA ISLAND, located off the coast of the province of La Altagracia, which belongs to the Cotubanamá or Eastern National Park. We will make this trip with drinks included, Dominican music, animation until we disembark on one of its beautiful beaches, where we will have lunch included. We return by boat, making a stop in the middle of the sea ¨NATURAL POOL¨ where we will have the time to do ¨snorkeling¨ to contemplate the natural beauties of the seabed. At the end of the afternoon, we will be back at our hotel.
After lunch, we leave La Romana en route to the province of La Altagracia, and we visit the impressive Basilica of the Virgin of Altagracia, patron saint of the Dominican people (entrance included). The dedication comes from the village of Siruela, Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain. Then we continue en route to PUNTA CANA, where we will be arriving at our All-Inclusive hotel at the end of the afternoon.
